One day before Josh Simmons was placed on injured reserve, the Chiefs offensive tackle reportedly was at the center of a strange altercation when Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes told him to leave a team meeting.
On Wednesday, according to ESPN, Simmons sat with his feet up during a meeting. Reid, the head coach, asked him to put his feet down.
According to the report, Simmons — who has yet to play this season because of a back injury — responded by saying he sat in that posture because his back and hips hurt.
Reid reportedly told Simmons that he should get treatment from the trainers if he indeed was in pain.

According to the report, Simmons later apologized and said he should have handled the situation better.
Simmons missed practice Wednesday with what was officially termed “back/not injury related-personal.”
On Thursday, he was placed on injured reserve with what the team said is a bulging, herniated disk in his lower back.

Surgery is not expected, and Simmons will miss at least the team’s next four games.

He missed four weeks last season due to a family situation, returned to play in games for three weeks, then fractured his wrist and required surgery that ended his year.
This season, Simmons suffered what he believed to be a calf injury in August, and trainers then diagnosed a bulging disc in his back, for which rehab, not surgery, was recommended.
